Research Overview

Our lab has a background in molecular biology, genetics, neurodegeneration and anatomy.

Currently, we are interested in understanding more about the molecular changes that cause pathogenesis in a the childhood motor neuron disease, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), with a view to influencing drug discovery.  Previously, we have worked on understanding the molecular mechanisms that underlie normal cognitive ageing, health and late-onset Alzheimer's disease.

In our laboratory, we use a wide range of molecular biology techniques to address our research questions, including; analysis of DNA, RNA and protein; gene cloning; in vitro and in vivo analyses of model systems.
